In the process of preparing metallographic samples, it is possible that the grinding and polishing process of silicon carbide metallographic sandpaper cannot be omitted. Compared to other metallographic consumables, the amount of metallographic sandpaper is also relatively large, which directly affects the cost of sample preparation. In addition, the main purpose of the metallographic sandpaper grinding process is to remove the surface deformation layer of the sample and prepare for the subsequent polishing process. Therefore, the quality of the metallographic sandpaper grinding process directly affects the quality of sample preparation. Firstly, whether it is manual or automatic grinding, it is important to continuously spray clean water onto the surface of the sandpaper to keep the metallographic sandpaper moist. This not only reduces the heat generated by friction between the sample surface and the grinding medium, avoids surface burns, but also effectively prevents interference caused by the embedding of grinding particles on the surface of the prepared sample. Some polishing machines with automatic spraying devices can be more convenient. Otherwise, manual water spraying is required, and a spray can be used to evenly spray along the direction of rotation of the grinding disc; You can also sprinkle clean water evenly on the surface of the sandpaper.
Secondly, for manual grinding, during the grinding process, try to make the hand holding the sample move uniformly back and forth along the diameter direction. This not only accelerates the grinding speed, but also makes full use of the grinding positions of the center attachment and edge of the metallographic sandpaper, which not only saves energy but also improves the grinding speed and effect. For automatic grinding, this has been done very well and does not require special attention.
Thirdly, after each grade of metallographic sandpaper is ground, rinse the surface of the sample thoroughly with clean water and blow dry to avoid bringing residual grinding particles onto the metallographic sandpaper in the next process, causing interference to the next grinding process. The surface of the sandpaper should also be thoroughly rinsed and placed on a drainage rack to prepare for the preparation of the next sample.
Although the above small details are not very eye-catching, they do determine success or failure. If we don't pay attention to them, the sample may be burnt, the sample grinding time may be extended, or the metallographic sandpaper may be frequently replaced, causing unnecessary waste.
