Engaged in material metallographic analysis work, dealing with metallographic microscopes every day, and having used various metallographic microscopes, I am also quite clear about the operation and precautions of metallographic microscopes. Today, I will share with you the relevant precautions of inverted metallographic microscopes, so that beginners can avoid detours and provide reference for everyone.

The inverted metallographic microscope is relatively unique compared to the upright metallographic microscope, with the difference being that the objective lens is located below the stage. It is mainly used for observation of large and irregular samples, as well as Empirical research and analysis that need to find targets in a specific range. It can be used to identify and analyze the surfaces of various alloy materials, metals, non-metals, integrated circuits, wires, fibers, surface spraying, microparticles, etc. It can also be widely used in the chemical, electronic, and instrument industries to observe transparent and opaque substances. Such as metals, integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, electronic chips, ceramics, thin films, liquid crystal boards, and other non-metallic materials. The operation of the inverted metallographic microscope is detailed in the manual and will not be elaborated here. Based on my usage experience, I will only share with you the precautions that need to be taken during the actual operation process.

Precautions for operating an inverted metallographic microscope

1.Lens cleaning:
Due to the upward orientation of the objective lens, it is easy to adhere to dust, so it is particularly important to keep the lens clean. The surface of the lens must be kept clean. If there is dust on the surface of the lens, it can be blown off with an ear ball or gently brushed off with a soft bristle brush.
Do not use cotton balls, dry cloth, or dry lens paper to wipe the surface of the lens, otherwise it may scratch the lens surface and damage it. Do not wipe the lens with water, as residual water stains can breed mold and damage the microscope.
If the lens surface is stained with fingerprints or oil stains, use a Cotton wool dipped with a little 3:7 mixture of absolute ethanol and ether to gently wipe it off.
2. Cleaning of body components:
Use a soft cloth dipped in a small amount of neutral detergent to gently wipe the body and components outside the lens; Do not use organic solution cleaning agents to wipe the surface of components, especially for plastic parts, and do not use organic solution cleaning agents to clean.
3. Focusing:
To avoid scratching the objective lens, be careful not to touch the sample when focusing.
4. Brightness adjustment:
When adjusting the brightness, it is important to avoid flickering and not being too bright, as it helps to protect vision while also avoiding affecting the normal lifespan of the light bulb.
5. Switch:
When the position of the center hole of the stage gasket deviates from the center position of the objective lens, do not switch the objective lens to avoid scratching it.
When switching functions, the action must be light and the switch must be in place.
6. Work interval:
When the instrument is working intermittently, to prevent dust from entering the lens barrel or surface, the eyepiece can be left on the lens barrel and covered with a dust cover, or the instrument can be covered with a dust cover.
7. Device Mobility:
The metallographic microscope should not be moved as much as possible. If you need to move, you should handle it gently to avoid collisions.
It is prohibited to disassemble the instrument, especially the intermediate optical system or important mechanical components, to avoid reducing the performance of the instrument due to improper disassembly.

8. Shutdown:
After use, rotate the converter to place the objective lens under the stage to prevent dust from settling. Then turn the brightness down and disconnect the power supply.
The above is my experience sharing for friends to refer to.
