Whenever the metallographic polishing machine rotates, I think of Master Wang.
More than twenty years have passed, and there is always a teacher with gray hair, wrinkles on his forehead, and a thick smile on his face. The image of the teacher still vividly exists in my memory, and the longer time goes by, the clearer it becomes.
Since graduating from college, I have been assigned to work in a metallographic laboratory at a state-owned automobile factory. Every morning when I go to work, I can hear the buzzing sound of the metallographic polishing machine rotating from afar. Mr. Wang, with gray hair, wrinkles on his forehead, and a thick smile on his face, is already busy by the metallographic polishing machine, holding small samples in his hands while grinding, with a focused expression. While grinding, he occasionally picks up and looks at them, Some ground samples have already been stacked on the edge of the metallographic polishing machine. In the years we worked together, there were no special circumstances. Master Wang was the first to come to the laboratory every day, and every day he greeted us with the buzzing sound of the metallographic polishing machine turning to welcome our new day's work.
Master Wang's followers are notoriously strict, and I still remember them vividly to this day. I remember learning how to grind and make samples from Master Wang at the beginning, because I had interned at school and had a solid foundation, so I was full of confidence. The first time I ground the sample, my confidence was shattered.
That's a sample grinding of a bearing. After I finished grinding according to the process requirements, I looked pretty good on my own, a bit smug. When I showed it to Master Wang, he glanced at it and handed me a sample he had ground. Seriously, I said, 'You can't do this. Grind it again. According to this grinding method, when can you grind it to the same level as this one?'! I was blinded all of a sudden, isn't it different? Where hasn't it been polished? Take a look under the microscope and it's really much different. There's nothing to do, let's grind it. Grinding it over and over again, it's almost vomiting, but the master has a serious face and doesn't pass the test! My heart is filled with mixed emotions, and my self-esteem has been greatly damaged. I continue to feel helpless, resentful, and aggrieved. While grinding, I conducted comparative analysis and summary, adjusted the speed and direction of the grinding disc, and adjusted the force on my hands. The effort was not inferior to those who were willing. After grinding this sample for three days, I finally finished grinding it.
The master's face showed a thick smile as he looked at the ground sample and said, 'Our job is a job where practice makes perfect. Different materials, shapes and sizes, and grinding and polishing processes are different, mainly through continuous observation, analysis, and summary, and then forming a mature method.'. Nice grinding! I was an apprentice back then, and it took me five days to grind a sample. You guys took three days to complete it, very good! In addition, for those of us who do this kind of work, we need to be calm and anxious. If the force on our hands is unstable, it is not easy to grind the sample well. Therefore, we need to focus on our hands and focus on it. Only by combining our hearts and hands can we produce high-quality samples. I really didn't expect that the preparation of metallographic samples was similar to the Huashan debate, and the higher level was; No sword is better than a sword;.
Today, I am no longer using a manual metallographic polishing machine to prepare high-quality metallographic samples. Grinding is done in minutes, which is no less effective than the grinding effect of an automatic metallographic polishing machine. To be honest, it is truly the foundation laid for me by Master Wang's strict requirements back then.
Every time I stand by the metallographic polishing machine and listen to the buzzing sound, I always remember Master Wang with gray hair, wrinkles on his forehead, and a thick smile on his face.
